Cover illustration for SHOP Germany (plus sketches)

Cover_Germany (1)

This is an illustration I created for the cover of a shopping guide to Germany published by Global Blue. It was commissioned for their Autumn/Winter 2012/13 edition of SHOP magazine Germany. SHOP is primarily a city guide but also a luxury fashion magazine, the issues are by city or country (SHOP Oslo, SHOP Germany etc.). All of the covers are illustrated, based on a feature from the inside of the magazine. Global Blue works closely with design studio Design by St on these. You can see some of the Spring/Summer editions here.

The editor wanted an illustration based on a feature about German hats past and present - "we are looking for something elegant, striking and a bit abstract not focusing on a specific brand necessarily, and can be very extravagant".

Portrait of Lucy Joy for 'hellohead' project

hellohead2 150dpi

This is a portrait I created for an exhibition held in CARGO London called hellohead, which was the brainchild of UK illustrator Lucy Joy (who I was lucky enough to have been picked to draw!).

From the hellohead website:

"The exhibition began as a portrait-swap. Each illustrator's name was picked from a hat and paired with another at random. Tasked with drawing the other in their own unique style the results are beautiful, weird and wonderful!
There is some fantastic work on show from the talents that are Jack Teagle, Holly Wales, Bob London, Gemma Correll, Pat Perry, Telegramme Studio, Pomme Chan, Kate Copeland, Pietari Posti, Miss Led, Tim McDonagh, Sandra Diekmann and many more.
The night is bursting at the seams with fun and creativity for all. There will be a silent art auction of all the prints (so bid your max and cross your fingers!) Live portrait drawing, a pop up shop, plus an interactive set and lots more. Be sure to bring your pennies as all money raised goes towards the National Autistic Society (NAS).
This year the NAS celebrates its 50th Birthday with the theme of 'friendship'. Embracing this we did a call-out for artists young and old from the NAS to be involved in the portrait swap project. There was a great response and all will be on display at hellohead."

Here's a picture of Lucy Joy under my portrait of her at the opening :-) :
