Love Saves the Day LOVE BOX

Love Saves The Day was a dance and electronic music festival that took place on Saturday the 25th of May 2013 in Castle Park, Bristol. The organisers asked me, and several other local artists in Bristol, to create unique 'Love Boxes', which would be placed around the site as decor.
The box was made up of 6 panels of 8 ft by 4 ft ply, which I put together into a triangle box shape. Scroll down to see some of the design process, and some shots of work in progress in my studio...

Jamaica Street Open Studios 2013

If you couldn't make it down to Open Studios at Jamaica Street over the weekend, here's a little sample of what you missed!
My space is the one above, the others I've snapped below are: Hannah McVicar, Christopher Wright, Cedric Barada, Anouk Mercier, Oivind Hovland, Vera Boele-Keimer, Abigail Reed, Janie George, Rose Vickers & Bjorn Rune Lie. There are many others in the building, this is just a small selection (mostly from the 3rd floor where I have my space).

Vienna print now available exclusively at The Artling

This image, 'Vienna', which I made a few years ago, and was featured in AOI Images 34 'Best of British illustration 2010', is now available exclusively as a Limited edition giclee print from The Artling, here.

The print sells for $180 US, comes in a Limited Edition of 25, and is 45.7cm x 30.5cm / 18" x 12".

Flying Lotus illustration in Clifton Life magazine

My illustration of Flying Lotus is featured in this month's Clifton Life magazine, to promote this year's Jamaica Street Artist's Open Studios, which is being held over the weekend of the 5th of July.
If you're in Bristol, be sure to come and check out my space, along with all the other artists in the building who offer the public a chance to sticky beak round their spaces once a year.
This years open studios coincides with Bristol's annual St Pauls Carnival, so it should be a great weekend!

KAUFMANN HOUSE illustration for GQ Japan

This is an illustration of Richard Neutra's Kaufmann House I did for GQ Japan. The illustration was for a column by Yasuto Kamoshita, the Creative Director of United Arrows, who writes a lifestyle column in every issue of GQ Japan.
This article was about Californian design. There was a show about Californian design from 1930 to 1965 at the National Art Center in Tokyo, and Kamoshita wrote a review of his experience visiting the show.
The brief was to draw an image of a mid-century house with palm trees, blue sky and pool.

Floral Fabric Design 2

This is the second of two floral fabric designs I've created for a new menswear clothing label. The design will be printed onto cotton and used to make mens sweaters (although I'm hoping to get a small one to wear myself!). I drew the flower pattern using graphite, ink and watercolour, and then manipulated the colours, positioning etc in Photoshop.

Floral Fabric Design 1

This is the first of two floral fabric designs I was asked to create by a new clothing label which is about to launch. The fabric is going to be printed on cotton and used for a range of menswear sweaters. I drew the flowers in graphite, coloured pencil and watercolour, and then manipulated them in Photoshop to create a repeated pattern. Above is a swatch of all the different flowers included in the design. Below you can see an example of how the flowers look as a repeating pattern.

DOLOR Vinyl

My copy of the DOLOR 'Mysteria' Vinyl EP arrived the other day! Very happy with how it looks, I always love seeing my work printed, especially on a vinyl sleeve :-)

From the Piccadilly Records site:

"This 12” EP from Dolor is the second release from Technicolour, the label set up by the producer Photomachine. Dolor has already been championed by Ninja Tune / Brainfeeder artist Lorn, who's a big fan.
Dolor’s persona as a musician has been on the rise of late thanks to a mass of self-released material, including ‘Macabre’, ‘A Chapel For Velvet’, and other innovative collaborations with Milwaukee’s adoptahighway, and Lorn. His ‘Drugs’ mixtape with Lorn was also extremely popular.
This five tracker opens with 'Our Number', a synthwave love-on with future R&B and bass music - emotive slip-sliding autotuned vox, lush strings and atmospheric washes married to off kilter skittering 808s. 'Pull Me In' follows a similar pattern for its first half before taking a turn into darkness... 'It’s Sexy Outside' is also a game of two halves - slow and slinky to start with then heading to the dancefloor on a wave of speeding electrohouse beats. Title track 'Mysteria' goes for the full synthwave layering, letting the alt-R&B beats lead the way as the queasy synths slide over the top. To close 18andCounting adds a moody (and don't-try-this-at-home) rap to future hip hop 'Classic Is Over'."
